Great attractions within the Fort Totten State Historic Site, The Pioneer Daughter's Museum, changing State Exhibits, a walking tour of 16 original 1870s buildings in the square, Fort Totten State Historic Site Interpretive Center, and the Totten Trail Historic Inn.
Nearby facilities are Sully's Hill National Game Preserve, Spirit Lake Casino & Buffet, The View Fine Dining at Spirt Lake, Spirit Lake Marina, Creel Bay 18-hole Golf Course, Horseback Riding Stables, and the Wacipi (Pow Wow) that is held the third weekend in July. The Wacipi begins Friday evening with continued dance competition and ceremonies through Sunday afternoon. It is open to the public and is great fun. Make your reservations early if you want to stay during that time frame.
Check out the annual summer Sully's Hill Birding and Nature Festival at Sully's National Game Preserve in June. The preserve is open during the summer months for a motorized tour. The refuge consists of 1,674 acres of varied habitat and maintains a big game unit, which is home to American Plains Bison, Rocky Mountain Elk, Whitetail Deer, Wild Turkey, Prairie Dogs, and many other wildlife species.
There are several attractions within the city of Devils Lake. The Lake Region Heritage Center has changing art and history exhibits, the Historic Sheriff's Home has period interiors and special holiday tours, and the downtown area of Devils Lake has numerous buildings listed on the registry of the National Historic Preservation Trust's Historic Buildings. Information on those buildings can be picked up at the Devils Lake Tourist Information Center on US Highway 2.
Devils Lake is also known for its fishing and hunting resources and hosts several fishing tournaments. Guide services and boat rentals are available at several places.
